opera 9.5
i’ve been using opera 9.5 (alpha) for the last few days.
one thing i noticed is that it loads fast. and works even faster. i have a lot of extensions installed in firefox, but even on a fresh install firefox isn’t this fast.
some of things opera does out of the box you need an extension for in firefox. there’s a few things i’d like to tweak but there are no options for tweaking, at least i can’t find them via the opera interface. i haven’t hit the forums yet to see what kind of tweaking is available.
wand feature isn’t working for me at all, but given this is the alpha version i expect that will be fixed before it’s released. widgets are a nice feature but mostless useless.
i can think of a dozen useful widget ideas offhand that aren’t available at all. the create a widget feature is a nice idea but has a ways to go.
the quick dial page is a great idea. probably just a matter of time before there’s a firefox extension that does the same thing.

Opera is nice stuff. It’s built on QT (like KDE, only it uses its own copy which is a bit of a pain WRT throwing away memory if you’re using KDE) and honestly seems a bit slicker to me than all the other browsers. You could complain about its kitchen-sink approach to building a browser but its pluses seem to far outnumber its faults.
On the other paw, Firefox 3 seems to be a dramatic improvement at least on my systems. And it’s not remotely out of beta yet (read: is full of debug code still).
